Mrs. Sharma from the PTSA Board was intrigued by Riya’s presentation and has shown interest in encouraging AHS students to get involved with YEPC and become more prepared for emergencies. They have happily extended their support to YEPC students’ outreach endeavours by inviting them to attend their monthly Zoom meetings as well

YEPC At Mission San Jose High

At the Community Presentation organized at MSJHS on Mar 26th ’25, student representatives from YEPC discussed the organization’s mission and upcoming initiatives for the year. Fremont Fire Department Volunteers delivered a presentation on emergency preparedness and community safety. The event concluded with a Q&A session where students and parents engaged in dialogue with the presenters, emphasizing the importance of being prepared in light of recent natural disasters in the region. They also introduced the Mission San Jose High Chapter at this event, along with the new Leads.

YEPC At Washington High

On March 20th, 2025, the Youth Emergency Preparedness Council held a presentation at Washington High School. Our YEPC Dist. Representatives also introduced the YEPC WHS Chapter to the audience and how they could be part of it. The event focused on disaster preparedness, leadership, and community involvement. Students learned practical safety tips and how to take action during emergencies. YEPC members also shared ways to join the organization and get involved in volunteer opportunities. Attendees connected with peers who are passionate about making a difference. The evening emphasized that youth play a vital role in building safer communities. Earth Day Fair Booth

The YEPC set up its own booth at the Earth Day Fair in Fremont! On April 23rd, at the Downtown Fremont Event Center, our booth talked about how climate change is affecting the frequency of natural disasters, and how to be prepared. Various other organizations talked about environmental awareness, specifically about recycling, energy saving, sustainability programs, and more. Our team members even had a chance to talk to mayor Lily Mei!

Fire Safety Training

On March 26th, the YEPC held its first ever Fire Safety Training in collaboration with the Red Cross and Fremont Fire Department. Students across FUSD learned how to prepare for a fire, what to do when a fire hits, and how to use fire safety equipment.

Unfortunately, the Fremont Fire officers were called out for a real emergency during the event. However, in its own ironic way, it contributed to our message. Our organization is all about being prepared for an emergency at any moment. We will be working with Fremont Fire to bring a fire extinguisher training soon, so keep on the lookout for that!

CPR Training

The YEPC hosted a CPR training on November 13th! Participants from across Fremont met at Mission San Jose High School to be trained under the guidance of Lifeline Safety Training. Attendees had hands-on training with CPR dummies, AED’s, choking maneuvers, and more.

A big thank you to Ms. Rhonda Burrow, who brought all the required materials, including CPR dummies, certification cards, and more! Also, a big thanks to everyone who attended the event – you all made this possible!

FUSD School Reopening Video

As we transition back to an in-person school setting, the Fremont Unified School District has been working hard to ensure all students and faculty will be safe on campus.

To learn more about these precautionary measures and what in-person school will look like, check out the official FUSD School Reopening video at vimeo.com/529175710.

YEPC has been working with FUSD for the past month to plan, film, and edit this video, and we hope this will be a first step to a successful return to school. Thank you Fremont Unified School District for this opportunity!

YEPC COVID-19 FUNDRAISER

The Youth Emergency Preparedness Council and their participants have been collecting money over the past month to assist the incoming surge of COVID-19 patients over the past month. YEPC participants have raised over $5,000 and all of the money we raise will go to Washington Hospital to purchase additional hospital beds for COVID-19 patients! We would like to thank all our donors for their generous donations that will provide additional support to local healthcare workers!

Although the COVID-19 Fundraiser is over, the YEPC’s purpose is not. We will continue to have events to prepare our youth for emergency situations and to help those around us. Active Shooter Training

On March 7th, 2020 at Mission San Jose High School attendees from across FUSD learned how to respond to Active Shooter/Intruder situations under the guidance of the Fremont Police Department. In addition to lectures and simulations, the attendees were able to get a tour of the Bearcat and view police drones! After a day-long training, attendees received certification of completion and a plethora of knowledge if ever put in a similar situation.

Trauma Kit Distribution Event

The YEPC is working with FUSD to distribute trauma kits at every FUSD school.

Today, YEPC members and Mission San Jose High School (MSJHS) students and staff created over 300 trauma kits for all schools in the Mission San Jose (MSJ) area. This includes Chadbourne Elementary, Gomes Elementary, Mission San Jose Elementary, and Mission Valley Elementary, Hopkins Junior High, and MSJHS.

The distribution at MSJHS today was the pilot for this project. The other high schools in Fremont will have a similar distribution day where they create kits for their own area. Be on the lookout for more updates regarding this!

Trauma Kit Distribution – Irvington

YEPC members and Irvington High School (IHS) students and staff created trauma kits for all schools in the Irvington area, which include the feeder schools to Irvington. Irvington is the second high school—following Mission San Jose—to hold make and distribute trauma kits. However, continue keeping an eye out, as there will be similar events in additional areas in the future!

TEEN CERT – Day 3

The third and final day of Teen CERT 2019 was a success! Yesterday, the participants from varying high schools in Fremont met for the concluding session of their CERT training. After learning about the proper usage of tourniquets, cribbing, and reviewing the techniques they have learned over the past sessions, the members were able to perform mini search and rescue drills! The tasks in the search and rescues tested the skills the participants gained throughout the training. Following this hands on portion of the day, the participants received certificates certifying their successful experience! These events were made possible by the several instructors from the Fremont Police Department and Fremont Fire Station. A big thanks to Alex Schubek and Andy Swartzell!

TEEN CERT – Day 2

Today was Day 2 of Teen CERT! The participants met at Mission San Jose High School to continue their training under the guidance of Fremont’s Emergency Services Manager Alex Schubek and Fire Division Chief Diane Hendry. Today, the students learned about emergency go-bags, CERT procedures for fires, the organization of CERT members during an emergency, psychological and physiological effects of a disaster, conducting a triage, and treating injuries in emergencies. The last day of Teen CERT will be December 15.

TEEN CERT – DAY 1

Today was Day 1 of Teen CERT! Teen CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a national training program designed for teens who would like to volunteer to help out during a local disaster.

Thirty students from all five high schools in Fremont gathered at Mission San Jose High School to start this 20-hour intensive course. They learned how to create emergency preparedness kits, communicate during a disaster, extinguish small fires, shut off water and gas lines, and use radios in an emergency.

– Day 2 of Teen CERT will be December 14. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates!
